October 28, 2016 - Telepractice: Speech Therapy over the Computer, You CAN Do This at Home ...Many older Americans suffer from acute and chronic communication disorders resulting from stroke, head and neck cancer, and neurological diseases. Although speech and language therapy can often improve symptoms and mitigate the impact of communication disorders, access to qualified providers may be limited for some patients due to: poor social supports, finances, geographical constraints. Left untreated, communication disorders can result in isolation, loss of independence and increased caregiver burden.

August 26, 2016 - Speech Therapy and Beyond for Parkinson's Approximately 70-90% of individuals with Parkinson’s disease experience a PD-related voice and speech disorder, which has been shown to affect overall quality of life ratings. After-therapy programs, community based programs like The LOUD Crowd®, device interventions and guided programs, such as Voice Aerobics®, may offer Parkinson’s patients an adjunct to formal speech therapy.

June 17, 2016 - Life, Love and Caring for Someone with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) Guests Jackie Hinckley, PhD, Executive Director, Voices of Hope for Aphasia, and Dr. Audrey Holland, Professor Emeritus of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona spoke about Voices of Hope for Aphasia, a community based program. The majority of individuals with Parkinson's (PD), responding to a 2015 Parkinson's Alliance survey think so.
